Is software needed to configure router?

I have a router that I don't have the software for. Its a new router that I purchased a few months ago but lost all the manuals/box for it. I'd be able to set it up without the software it came with right? its a linksys G router.

It will probably work without it. You won't be able to access the router or change the passkey. You can download the manual from Linksys

You don't need any software to configure the router, it's all HTTP based in the router.

Type IPCONFIG at a command prompt, and the Default Gateway address is the setup address for the router. Enter that address into the IE address bar.

More than likely you should also check on firmware updates for the router as well.

Linksys just released another new firmware for the WRT-54G Version 5 & 6 routers a few weeks ago.

BTW, I never use the software that comes with the routers for set up, but I am comfortable navigating the web interface and setting things up as well.

i have never had any luck setting the routers up with the software that comes with them. i just peel the sticker off and use the web interface... ive tried it about 6 times now on my own and my friends router's and not once has it worked, so i gave up on the cd's and realized the web interface is much easier. but if you really want the cd, im sure you could contact linksys about getting a new one.
