Net trouble

Recently i moved into a college dorm room and i've been having trouble with my internet connection. The company my dorm uses is called NTC (www.ntc-com.com). Whenever I connect, I've noticed that all my online games and general browsing are moving extremely slow. When playing WoW, my latency gets up to 7000ms.

I've opened up my local area connection status and it seems like my sent packets are unusually low. I've connected it for about 5 minutes now and my packets sent is at 900 while my received packets is at 40,000. Is there anything that might be causing packets to not go out or something?

I'd say it's simply a limitation of the college network as a first guess. It's pretty difficult to diagnose something like this from afar.

I would say that this is a limitation intentionally put in place by the college network. If you read your documentation on usage for the college network, you will probably find in there stating the P2P apps and online gaming is not allowed on the campus network. They do what they can to enforce this.

i plugged my wall line into my laptop and the connection worked fine. i did do a bunch of stuff to my desktop with the supervision of the people in the HJT forum so i'm wondering if something i did there might be limiting the number of packets im sending?

edit: i just got off the phone with NTC and the technician said that there was no limit as far as p2p or online gaming. i did do a speed test and got a 1300kbps download rate and a 300kbps upload rate.

I would be more inclined to think that it was the campus network limiting your connection.
