Serious Modem problems, plz help
Hello, i just recently bought a new computer running Windows XP. Intel Core 2 Duo, Asus top of the line mobo, and its been working fine for the past few months. I just got a trendnet modem, and when i connect to the dialup, it will stay connected for a few hours, then my internet will just stop working, but it still says im connected to the dialup. So i bought US robotics modem to see if that one would work, and the same error keeps happening. I cant figure out what model US robotics i am using because i bought it from a friend, but does anyone know any common fixes to fix this error?

I'd guess it could be your phone line.

Re: Serious Modem problems, plz help
Hope this isn't too late. US Robotics web site has for its modems a list of "Hayes" compatible commands used to connect to your ISP. One of them by my erratic memory (S command I think) is used to set how long the modem will stay connected when things are idle. Try using the ATi4 command to list the profile you are using (it may be a different command on your modem). Then use the command to list the last connect string (like ATz3 l1 m1.....). Check out each command in the profile and list and you will likely find the problem area.
