Westell DSL Modem

I'm having touble with my Westell 2200 Modem/Router. As long as I'm surfing the web, everthing seems to be OK, otherwise the dsl is disconnected after about 5 minutes. The funny thing is that if I dial a number on one of the phones in the house the dsl is re-established right away. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
I'm running XP Home and live in Southwestern, PA.
Thanks

Did your install guy put a DSL filter on your phone lines? You can get them at Radio Shack

Hopefully you've been able to resolve this by now, but one thing I would check is in the DSL firmware configuration, which you can access by typing 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of yur web browser. If it asks you for your username and password (Something like "Modem Secure, Log in to 192...) and you've never seen this before, then use "admin" for the username and "password" for the password.

Once you've set up a new username and password of your choosing at the next screen, you'll be able to access the Profile Editor. In the Editor, click "Edit", and then check that "Keep Alive" is selected, and not "On Demand" or "Manual". Then select "Save" from the buttons at the bottom. This could likely solve your issue.

If t isn't already fixed.
