Need help with DSL modem
undefinedundefinedundefined
Hey folks I need help here. I have Bellsouth DSL at the house, with a Westell modem, "Wirespeed 2200". It worked great for a few months then it went down. When turned on the ethernet light is on, the ready light blinks, the power light is on. Bellsouth said that nothing is wrong with thier lines. All filters have been checked. My ethernet card shows its in good working order on Win XP. Before I call Bellsouth, with the risk of paying $80.00 per hour, does anyone know how to check and see if the modem is broken. Westell site gives no info, bellsouth is no help either. Any and all info is needed. Thanks "dothedew" |

I am not familiar with your DSL system in USA but I will assume.
1. That it is via phone line. 2. That it is connected via Cat45 (the phone connector we use in Australia) 3. that the Modem you talk about has a Admin Control panel accesable via IE Make sure your computer is connected to the Modem via Cat5. Open internet explorer and type the address i.e. http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.1.1/. This should give you the log in screen, if so it may ask for a password (could be admin/admin or admin/password or may even be blank). If you can do this, have a look around in there.(it may have a line tester or sinc tester or may indicate signal strenght/speed) Maybe your provider has changed his IP address from Static to Dynamic. Check out the Modem manufactures website. Could be many reasons. Good Luck John |

Look in your user guide. If the Ready light is not solid, you don't have a connection to the DSL service provider. That's the problem... Can you connect a plain telephone to the line to the DSL modem and dial out? If so, the lines are intact and it's time for a service call from your ISP.
