Wireless Disconnecting

Okay, Im connected to my wireless 2wire gateway beneath my rooom via a trendnet wireless pci adaptor (TEW-603PI). It seems to randomly just disconnect for a few seconds (5-10) every once and a while, and I have no clue why. I called the tech support # and they said it's because I'm above my router, but I think that that is BS myself. Anyone help? BTW, it's not like it's a laggy wireless connection; I get DL speeds of like 150kbs while surfing the web without lag on the cheap DSL.

I'd be looking for other wireless networks, cordless 2.4ghz phones, microwave ovens, etc.

You can try changing the channel on the router to see if that helps.

Position doesn't really matter unless there are object in between that can disrupt the signal. John's suggestions are good as they are often things that most people disregard. If your phone is older but uses the 2.4Ghz standard then it may be part of the issue. New phones now come in Wi-Fi friendly flavors that will allow them to work happily alongside your wireless connection.

Beneath as in a story beneath? There's a ton of metal lath, pipes, wiring, nails, etc inside walls and floors, and it's all really conductive of wireless signals... i have the same problem going through an exterior wall.

The router is beneath as in the story beneath, yes. I don't believe that there are any pipes, hardly any (if any) wires, there are some nail though, in between my network card and the router. I don't think that the floor being there is the problem.

My network card is not picking up any other wireless networks. The only microwave is on the other side of the house. There are no cordless telephones in the house, except my cell phone.

How can I change the channel? I'm using a 2wire gateway, I'll go fetch the model number when I get back home (I'm at school right now :P).

there should be some lath between the floors though, and that stuff's usually cheap metal. anyway, you change the channel by logging into your router (not sure on the ip, probably 192.168.1.1 or .0.1 or .2.1, though,) with the password (no idea on that obviously) and go into the wireless settings menu or whatever looks similar and change the channel. also, make sure your gateway and wireless adapter are set to 802.11g if they support it.

Yes, that part is definitely BS, I'm above my router as well, and stay connected most of the time, though I do still have some issues to work out.

Every wireless environment is unique. The sum total of the obstructions, interference sources, and specific equipment involved make each case unique.
