IP Address issue....
Last night I reinstalled XP to clean out my system. Everything ran smoothly, it seemed like a clean install, however I cannot connect to the internet. It's not picking up on an IP Address. I'm using a 16 month old Dell Inspiron which had no problem picking up connection when it was out of the box, so what gives now? I'm clueless and can't get help.
Using dial up on an old laptop = no fun.....

Are you using a high speed modem to get connection? Is your NIC showing in the device manager(Start>>>>Settings>>>>>>>Contol Panel>>>System)? Is your local area connection enabled(Start>>>>>>>Settings>>>>>>Control Panel>>>>>>Network Connections)?

Hmm.. under device Manager the "other devices" section which lists my ethernet controller, network controller, pci modem, etc. it has yellow question marks. So I guess that means my NIC is not showing then.........

Those drivers will probably be in the restore disk that should ship with the Dell. if you dont have them then try download on a separate computer Intel PRO nIC drivers from Intel. then istall and reboot your computer. see if it picks the drivers to your card.

You probably didn't install the motherboard drivers, that's what that indication normally means. You need both the MB drivers and the NIC drivers.
