My modems have some issues.
For some reason my Diamond Multimedia 56i PCI seems as if it is off the hook all the time. When I plug it in and wait a minute and try to connect it keeps saying there is no dial tone or it is off the hook. So I plug the modem in right when I hit connect and it dials. I sort of got tired of this and I got this new modem from school since they don't need it they have a LAN connection. So then when I plug this one up I can't seem to get a connection higher than 44KBps and that is with the phones all over the house unplugged which is only 2. Before I unplugged the phones I could not get any higher than 42 KBps. I was suggested to have all my phones unplugged to cancel out all possible static by the phones. I know I can achieve a higher connection speed than this my Diamond Multimedia 56i PCI that always had to be plugged in right before it was connecting could achieve a speed all the way up to 50.6KBps. And yes I know people keep telling me that it is lucky that I have gotten this connection several times in a row but there has to be something wrong with this modem. I have it on COM 2 and it is set to 57600 bps baud speed. I was told that is the speed a 56k modem is suppose to be set to. Can someone please give me a suggestion on what I can do to my Diamond Multimedia 56i PCI off the hook modem and my Soft V90 Data Fax Modem which is connecting 10KBps slower than it should connect at.

Well, I doubt you'll like my answer, but your speeds are very typical of dial-up speeds. FWIW, you should set your COM port speed to 115kb, since most links have compression, and you're throwing away some performance with the 56kb setting.

Diamond Multimedia 56i PCI
What about this modem. When I had it plugged up to my computer last it kept seeming as if it was off the hook. The only way I could get around it is to plug in the phone cable right when I was fixing to hit connect. I have seen a few modem commands on an off hook with the command HN=0 or 1 would this fix my problem if I figure out how to use the command?

The modem is probably broken from the description.
