Please advice on what I can do.
I have a wireless internet connection using a wireless modem(Navini). Previoulsy, my ISP allowed me to connect to the internet without any login in to anything . Just connect the modem to my computer and you do not have to do any configuration. All the necessary configurations are done automatically. (NB: Internet connection is a single PC connection)I used and ethernet switch (D-link, DES 1008D)to share that connection to my home network withouth any problem. I connected the wireless modem to the switch and connect the computer to the rest of the ports in my switch. I setup up a regular home/office network connection to share files and internet connection. But now, my ISP has upgraded their system. When I try to connect a web page pop up and say to login and I have to login if I want to use inernet connection. The present setup does not allow me to share the internet connection. Is there anything that I can do to share the internet connection? For I have heard that I can use a router to do this and I do not want to change the my internet connection But is there any other way I could do it. Thanks in advance for any one who help me.

You could use ICS, but I'd much rather have the broadband router. Why is the router undesirable? You don't have to change your Internet connection to use it.

Agreed. A properly setup router would be all you need. It sounds as though you're using DSL, correct? Once the modem is dialed in and everything is authenticated then you can add the router.

I suppose there isn't anything I could do with a switch in situation. Its just that I don't want to buy a router since it hasn't been 3months after I bought the switch. I don't know what actually what my connection is? I think it is most probably DSL. One more thing, a friend of mine told me that I could use PPPOE protocol and setup the my home network and configure the switch. Do you guys have any idea about that.
Anyways thanks to both of you. I guess, I should get and a router if I want to find a solution to this. |

A router is dirt cheap, try checking these bargain sites. You really will be MUCH happier with a router than fooling around with ICS and a hub/switch.
