Contact your DSL technical support and see if they can check your connection from their end as your signal may be too weak or out-of-channel. It's a good first step before digging into your PC to see if it's a problem on their end and not yours. Many frustrations with high-speed internet have been alleviated because there was a problem somewhere down the line between your PC and your ISP.

If it isn't a problem with that, we'll take a look at your PC.

Do you have a router, or are you directly plugged into the modem. If you do have a router, try restarting the router and upgrading the firmware. My Linksys has a tendency to do this to me occasionally.

Do you know what the advertised speed is for your connection? Try this this and see what the actual bandwidth you are getting is. Normally your bandwidth should be around 80% of the advertised speed. (also note the difference between Kbps (bits) and KBps (bytes))

results

my dl was 330 kb/s
my upload was 322 kb/s
my latency was 144ms(w/e that means?)

i'm suposed to be getting around at the max 769 but from 500 to 769 kb/s!
any tips or programs or how to maximize my internet connection i tried putting modem farther away from my pc and other appliances ... nothing different so far. i got 10 more kb/s from that on my downloads but i knowi could do better.

The only thing I can think of is possibly a bad cable somewhere.

You can also poke around www.speedguide.net and utilize some of the suggestions there. It will also help you to set your MTU properly to gain a boost in performance. They have some registry tweaks that help a lot too.

Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco service entrance. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter.

This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues.
