Here's a good one... I had a major crash on my Win XP, did a format reinstall, lost some stuff I THOUGHT I had backed up, oh well.... I dragged my old Win 2K out and used it to download fixes, etc. When I was ready to put XP back on line, I shut down, unplugged the LAN connect from 2K and plugged it into XP. My security suite said I wasn't connected to the internet. I tried other browsers, got "page can't be found...."
I then shut down, unplugged from XP and plugged back into 2K. That unit gave the same "NOT CONNECTED" ???? My young lady is in the next room using the web via the same cable modem and router, so the web is present. I tried going straight from the modem using the cable that sent to the router. Same deal on both units. I went as far as to move my XP desktop to her room and plugging in there, no change. I have tried all the tricks I know, like uninstalling and unplugging everything, modem, USB, printer, etc. rebooting, shut down and then plug it all back in and reinstalling all the "New Hardware" The LAN has yellow ???s in device manager. I went to my nearby computer store and bought a used LAN card, the diagnose says it iS "Working Properly", drivers installed, but no internet. Does anyone have a clue? I was blown out by the fact that I tried my XP, plugged back into the 2K, which was working when I unplugged, and THAT didn't work. I have tried new cables, different routes but no good. I'm stumped.

Are you saying that you do or do not have an error in Device Manager for Network Controllers?
What do you get when you do this: Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here.

It starts on the day I installed my used LAN PCI card, I have another Lan out on my motherboard which doesn't seem to show. If I get one of them on lone, can i network the two, and use the connection to move files from the on-line to the off-line?
