This is hard to explain but I will try my best. Last week the power went out for a second and my pc restarted. Now I cant get online. All the correct lights on my modem are on (USB, Ready and Power). I called verizon and they told me to do a bunch of stuff under COMMAND. We [me and verizon] tried to renew my ip but it wouldnt let us. It said sumthing about a file being missing. My ip shows up as this 0.0.0.0. They told my to contact the manufacture of my pc so i called up gateway and they told me they couldnt help me cuz i upgraded to XP and when i bought the pc it had 98 on it. So now this is were you guys and gals come in. I need someone to help me. I live in Tampa FL, so if anyone there can help I will gladly bring my pc to you and you can inspect it. But I rather fix the problem myself so if anyone knows whats wrong PLEASE tell me!!!

Did they have you unplug the modem for a 15-30 secs and re-plug in? Sometimes the DHCP server "loses track" of a modem's IP. Removing power will renew that as well.
If not, power everything off....then plug in modem, wait a few secs, then start PC. If this was tried, then you'll have to supply the error message you are getting when trying to re-connect to be sure which way to go next. |

If powering down everything and restarting doesn't fix it, please be SPECIFIC as to the error message you receive.
Also, one it's all booted, please open a DOS window and type: IPCONFIG /ALL >C:RESULT.TXT Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.
