Mistake Strange Cable Problem

Hello! Recently I have been having a very annoying internet problem. (Well, I have had this problem for about 5 months, but it has gotten more severe I think)

First off, I know very very little about computers.

I have comcast cable internet, with an RCA digital broadband modem.

The problem is, when surfing the net, when I click to go to a new site, or click a link, or type in a site address, often my internet will "stall." I use this word because it is like lag, but it lasts anywhere from 20 seconds to 3 minutes.

The windows icon in the top right corner of the internet page is moving around so it recieved my command, but nothing happens.

I have absolutely no clue how to fix this, and I have gotten poor answers from the 2 calls I have made to customer service. This problem also seemed to happen in everquest, where my connection would be very close to being broken sometimes.

I have had a very hard time describing this problem to others, and the best way to explain it is just that my internet "stalls" and nothing happens for a while.

If anyone knows why this is happening, or how to fix this, please help!

Thanks very much!

I had a neighbor with Comcast problems using a Terayon modem and it turned out that the driver disk that CC had provided had out of date drivers. You might check the mfg web site for current drivers or Driverguide.com. My neighbor didn't get much help from CC either but then I just about had to guide Earthlink through my DSL setup!!!

You may want to consider changing DNS servers from your ISP DNS server. I did this with Comcast, and the DNS issues I was having with their DNS servers vanished. :) Here's a list I've compiled, and the two that I'm currently using are marked.

199.166.24.253 (PS0.NS1.VRX.NET) - Toronto, ON, Canada
199.166.27.253 (PS0.NS3.VRX.NET) - Richmond Hill, ON, Canada *** (MY PRIMARY) ***
199.166.28.10 (PS0.NS2.VRX.NET) - Apopka, Fl
199.166.29.3 (NL.PUBLIC.BASESERVERS.NET) - Nederlands
199.166.31.3 (NS1.QUASAR.NET) - Orlando, FL, USA *** (MY SECONDARY) ***
195.117.6.25 (ZOLIBORZ.ELEKTRON.PL) - Poland
38.113.2.100 (NS1.JERKY.NET) - Boston, MA, USA
213.196.2.97 (PAN.BIJT.NET) - The Netherlands
199.166.28.10 (PS0.NS2.VRX.NET) - Atlanta, Ga
199.5.157.128 (ASLAN.OPEN-RSC.ORG) - Detroit, MI, USA

thanks I appreciate the help but the problem is, you might as well be speaking chinese to me, I dont understand any of that.

I am still in high school and I am the only one in the family that even knows the smallest bit about computers, so I posted here. I will give those things a try but im kinda in the dark here.

You may have a lot of packet loss. Try going to DSLReports and registering so you can use their diagnostics. Run the test for packet loss, for decent broadband service, you should see very little or no packet loss. I get none when I run the test.
