2mbps
I have a NETGEAR WG311T wireless firewall router. At times the signal strength goes very low and the mbps goes down to 2 instead of the normal 48 or 54 which is MAX. When it is down to 2mbps I have barely any internet connection, sometimes when I try to rearrange my computer so that the wireless chip antenna is facing a different direction and it goes up a bit but it goes back down to 2mbps again. My wireless router is located just right across the room from me , my computer is under my desk. Another problem I am having is enabling WEP or WPA-PSK, the wireless wizard does not connect when I try to put in a password and enable it but it works when I don't enable it.

Hi,
I have had the same sort of problem as you with the slowing connection speed. I updated my drivers, and it works tonnes better. So, see if there are any updated drivers. |

Just curious, for a machine that close, why not run a wire? The wireless issues will be a thing of the past.

Let's debug the wired issue, it eliminates a bunch of variables.

Ok, great just downloaded the new Vrs. Now, the last problem I am having with the WG311T software is that it won't let me put a WEP or WPA-PSK encryption in. Everytime I try to put in a password and press Apply it won't connect, it'll just keep trying to connect.

Usually, that signifies that the two passwords don't match.

Ok, I didn't really understanad both john and neo's reply. This is an example of me putting a password into the WEP. See how it is red and says Scanning, it never stops doing that and doesn't connect. I typed in a password in the passphrase and it generates a Key automatically as you type in a passphrase.
![]() As for when I don't enable WEP, it connects perfectly.

Liquiddragon, try to connect your computer to the router using an ethernet cable and make these changes. Then print the keys that it generates. Then on your computer open the wireless properties and click on view wireless networks. Than on the left hand side click on change advanced settings. Click on the wireless networks tab and look for preferred networks. Romove all then hit ok. Go back and view wireless networks, select the one you want to connect to. When it asks for the network key, dont enter the pass phrase, enter on of the keys that the router generated that you printed out, this should get you connected.

Please trim and attach the pictures to the message here, I couldn't read those, and ImageShack was also trying to send me a bunch of popups.
![]() You can also trim the graphics so just the stuff of interest is shown, we really don't need to see the whole desktop.

Open the screen where you see the list of available networks, then clck on change advanced settings on the left side of that box and then click on the wireless notworks tab abd remove all networks listed in the preferred networks box, then click ok. Now go back to the list of available networks. Try to connect to the network entering the wep key when asked for your network key, Also be sure that the encryption is set to wep and not wpa. Make sure of this both in the wireless settings on your pc and in the router.
