Post XP Reinstall Connectivity Issues
Like the title would imply, I am having issues reconncting to the internet on my friend's computer after restalling windows XP.
The issue we are having is that we have lost internet connectivity-Initially we attempted to solve this problem by using the Comcast install CD, however, it gives an error message saying that no Network Device was found. However, I am currently downloading drivers for my friend's Mortorola SURFboard, and will see if that will give us results. Any other tips before I go again tomorrow?

First off, Do NOT use the Comcast CD, it won't help you!
If you connect with the Ethernet cable, you don't need ANY 3rd party drivers, and they'll only complicate the situation. I suspect the real problem is you have not reloaded the motherboard drivers and/or the NIC drivers. Make sure that the NIC appears in Device Manager with no errors, that's the first step.

Okay, that's good to know. We tried to use the cable modem w/ ethernet, using both the NIC and the Onboard ethernet, but to no avail.
The system is a Dell 4600 Dimension, and the driver CD just gives me a list of drivers and no way to install them. Device manager reports an error (No drivers) with both the NIC and Onboard, however, we have CD's for the NIC. Perhaps that will help. I will also Download Motherboard drivers for the 4600.

You need to start with the MB drivers, then the NIC drivers if you still have errors.

Well, that wouldn't have been my first guess, but I'm glad you got it going.
