Fixing internet connection

Hi all,

Here is a tough one. The folks on the mac forum haven't been able to fix it yet and neither have verizon tech support, so I was hoping someone here could step up to the challenge.

I have verizon dsl that right now is hooked up to a mac running osx (10.3.9). There is no router just a modem.

The problem is, i'm moving out and my mom wants her dell (running windows xp) hooked back up to the DSL connection.

Simply turning everything off (the modem and the dell) did not work (the dell sees a limited or no connectivity connection) so I called verizon.

I spent over an hour on the phone with verizon, releasing/renewing the ip address, uninstalling/reinstalling the network card and so on. Finally the lady at verizon said we've exhausted all our ideas your network card isn't working properly.

I happened to have an extra network card lying around so I shut everything down again and put it in the dell. the dell immediately recognized the new hardware -- but still couldn't get a network connection.

But i have been able to switch back to the mac with no problem at all -- i'm using it right now.

Any ideas on getting the dell internet connection up and running are greatly appreciated

thank you
Justin

Well its fixed. I'm not sure if this was the one thing that fixed it, but on the mac under network settings i configured the ip address and the router ip address manually to all zeros. After doing this the dell picked right up on the network connection.
