Modem longivity

Anyone know the average life expectancy of a standard modem? I've had to replace one about one a year for the past three years. I've been using the Toshiba PCX 2200 and invariably they crap out between 11-16 months...usually about the time the router will die as well!

Might want to try a cable line surge protector. Here is an example.

I've got one of those by Monster Cable that cost about $75 several years back. Perhaps it's the brand I use

Monster is a good brand, but sometimes they save your computer once and are done. Some tell you this, some don't. Might want to replace it.
