Ethernet port messed
Well, it's been an ongoing problem that I've been trying to fix for some time now, and I've finally decided to break down and get some help. Now my laptop is normally hooked up wirelessly to my home router, and this works fine. The thing is when I try to plug it directly into my router via ethernet it gets no connectivity. Funny thing is that today I went to my friends house to help him with some networking problems, and I plugged my laptop into his router and everything worked fine with the ethernet port.
What can I do to make it work at my house? Some background information, if I see any responses with something listed in here it will be pretty useless. - Me and my friend have the same ISP - All of the ethernet cords work fine, none are crossover cables - My laptop doesn't work if I plug it directly into my cable modem either - The wireless connection at my house works fine with it Now this is odd, because it's really as simple as why does it work at his house and not mine? |

If, after doing this, the laptop does connect by ethernet, then I would suspect that its failure to connect by ethernet to the router is a hardware problem with the router itself. |
