Wireless Performance: rubbish
Hi there. I have just upgraded my broadband from 1mb to 10mb. Wired; i get a data transfer rate of around 1.1mb a sec
However when i switch to wireless i get 300kbps. Now I'm not a very picky person but 300% perofrmance drop is ridculous. I have a Linksys router BEFW11S4 version 4 supporting up to 11mbps wireless and 100mb wired. I have changed the fragmentation, beacon and RTS settings to no real avail however it did go up to 500kbps when i had; beacon: 50 Frag: 2304 RTS: 2304 Would it be worth upgraing the router to a 54mbps, would there be any boost in internet performance? Or is it just that because of the way wireless works I will see such a decrease in performance? |

Could just be your wireless network setup. I am on 10mb cable internet. Modem is plugged into a Belkin 54g wireless router. I have one PC and one Laptop, Belkin Wireless 54G HSM (High Speed Mode) 125mb PCI card in the PC, and an Intel 54g card in the laptop.
Both of these work perfectly fine, I can get almost 1.2mbps from a good download source. Only downside is internal network speed, where its a lot slower than wired connection, but internet works fine. Try to borrow a router, or computer network adapter from someone. Or just get someone with a wireless enabled laptop over to check if he gets better speeds.

Thanks mate. Decided to get a new router I think this ones had it. 802.11g but runs like crap. New router gets data transfer of 950kbps now so only a loss of around 150-200kbps which i cant complain seeing as it is wireless. Took your advice and borrowd a mates laptop but got the same problems. Dont no what the hell was wrong with it but got a new one instead. Cheers
