over the past year of having Verizon DSL was working 100% but yesterday i noticed on ventrilo, (VoIP program) that my ping was ranging from 900-6000!! i couldnt believe it! i already had this problem, and i went out and bought a brand new Linksys WRTG54G router thinking it would fix my predicament.. well it did for about 2-3 months but now it seems that i can get connection but not enough bandwidth even to run a speed test
im paying $30 a month and i should be receiving 54.0 Mbps this is realy getting me ticked off bc no one knows what to do except for my father who is out of the country at the moment and yes i have done the power cycle many times, all of which does nothing if anyone at all can help.. please do so, thanks |

A couple of things!
1. You are not getting 54Mbps for $30 per month with DSL! Maybe 54kbps, but there is no way you could run VOIP and surf the web with 54 kbps. I would hope your DSL connection is more like 768kbps by 192 kbps for $30 per month. 2. What do your ping times do when you drop your VOIP call? 3. Are there any P2P programs running? 4. How many users are connected to the DSL service at the same time? Ping times between 900-6000 ms mean either a really high error count or you are saturating the DSL link. JamesO |

Sounds like somebody has a P2P program running, saturating your bandwidth.
Disconnect all other machines and see what the pings response changes to! Run a speed test and see what happens. JamesO |

54Mbps??? Sounds like your connecting thru a wireless router. If so, do you have security enabled, like WEP or WPA? Might have a neighbor connecting to your router if that connection is open, and using all your bandwidth. Don't know if thats how you connect, but if it is, it's worth looking in to.

ya, im on a router.. but when i enable the security feature, i cant connect for 1 reason, i dont know the pass word or how to change it in the router confiq. window at my routers IP number on the internet... so i dont realy no..
ill try to do a speed test later.. this is realy annoying ![]() i dont live close enough for a neighbor to be in my lan anyway, there about 1000 ft away on both sides Edit: LIKE HOLY HECK !!!! Last Result: Download Speed: 56 kbps (7 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 46 kbps (5.8 KB/sec transfer rate) i unpluged all computers except mine, and now im serfing like back when i was on dial up on my modem it says DSL Connect Rate (Down/Up) 1792 KBits/Sec by 224 KBits/Sec... wtf~!Last edited by enot767 : 06-11-2006 at 04:05 PM. |

That is an issue with DSL and the slow upload speeds. Uploads can take a long time and saturate the DSL link causing downloads to be slow even though the download bandwidth is available.
