Just Curious.....

I have a 1Mb broadband connection, but a couple of times the download speed has suddenly spiked at about 10Mb speeds when I started a download, any idea why?

Sometimes the download starts before the details are displayed on the screen. As it "catches up", a lot of data appears to have been downloaded in very little time, so the speed is overstated. As the download proceeds, the speed falls to the realistic figure. I find Firefox's download manager to be particularly guilty of this "feature".
