Yes, I'm having a similar problem and its driving me insane.

I just built a computer and installed Windows XP pro. I got it running and installed all the motherboard drivers, but it wont detect that my ethernet cable is connected. The LED light is on when I plug it in, but its not detecting it. The modem is definitly working with the computer im on right now. Any clue as to what may be going on?

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread. Thanks for your cooperation.

Did you power cycle the modem?
