Possible for someone to create their own network?
Hiya.
I'm new to this site and just have a quick question, it may or may not be pointless to ask. Anyway. I'm on a wireless connection with Windows XP. D-link airplus (Rev.A2) if this means anything. I'm not much of a techie. Regardless, It is usually connected. As of late I seem to get alot of lagging, connection dies for a few minutes, etc. When I view wireless netwroks its usually only one of them. (Default). But now for some reason I have noticed a security enabled network, one that requires some sort of a key or something. Seems to me that I did not put this there. I cant see anyone else doing it either. I share a wireless network with my landlord but, he and his wife barely run their computer so I cant see this being them. It doesnt make much sense to me. I guess if anyone wanted to answer they may need more details from me, but I'm not sure how to explain them, I can only notice so much. To make the story nice and short all I am really asking is if it is possible for someone to do this from their own computer, eg. A trojan horse or whatever else. Should I have reason for concern after noticing a new "securty enabled" network when I click the "view wirelss networks" tab. If so would people be able to connect to this remotely. Also, seems I have found a placeholder on my computer which I have no idea how to remove, its called registry clean (Something or other). Normaly I just run ad-aware or something else and it kills the spyware, but after removing this thing it took my connection away to limited or no connectivity, I had to restore it so I could get my connection to work again. I was just thinking the two things may be related. Sorry to rant but if anyone understands my poor explanation I would appreciate some help. Maybe there is something that I can help somebody else with. |
