I've got 2 PC's running windows XP and a netgear switch. No incomming internet connection. All I am trying to do is File Share/Print share the 2 pc's. I plugged the switch in and it auto detected both PC's and I was able to view the other's (respectively) files. But opening the files took an extremely long time. (5+ minutes to open a word document). Once I rebooted the PC's the connection was lost. Ive tried power cycling the switch, and tried adding them as a workgroup location, as well as running the windows add network place wizard. Now its rather hit or miss as to weather the files display, but when they do, and I try and open them, I get that I am not authorized to view files. Both PC's are logged in under the computer administrator. Any suggestions? NetGear offers little to no support. and even less instruction. The manual that came with the switch merely tells me how to power it up and put it on the stand that came with it. Any input would be much appreciated.
in addition I've tried switching the ports on the switch itself around to see if that made a difference. I put the "master PC" in port 1, and the secondary in port 2. Ive tried putting the master in port 2, and secondary in port 3 and 4. and ive tried putting the secondary in port 1 and the master in port 2. no avail.... grrr... going to kill netgear! |

Configure the TCP/IP properties for the following values:
PC1: IP Address: 192.168.0.2 Subnet Add: 255.255.255.0 PC2: IP Address: 192.168.0.3 Subnet Add: 255.255.255.0 That should solve the random connection issue. BTW, this has nothing to do with the type of switch you have, it's just a Windows TCP/IP auto-config addressing issue.
