Question No Connection to other PC via Linksys WAG54G

Ok, here's my problem:

First let me explain how my setup is. I am in posession of a Linksys WAG54G Wireless ADSL Gateway Router on which i connect to the Internet with a PC and a Laptop. Both connect wirelessly, an to this point everything works just fine.

The problem is i can't see the Laptop in My Network Places on the PC and the same goes for the Laptop. Nor can i see the other one in Workgroup Computers. But both Computers have shared folders!

Well, here's the deal: The Laptop runs Win XP Home Edition SP1 and the PC runs Win XP Professional Edition SP2. All Firewalls are off (Norton and Windows Firewall on WinXP Pro). Both PC are in the same workgroup. The only thing is they don't have static IP adresses. Tried that once but the Internet Connection didn't work then and i didn't know how to configure the router for it to work again. Could this be the problem?

Anyone Ideas?

Nope, they work just fine with dynamic addresses.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

PING each computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. You can obtain the IP address of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG. This should work for any Windows version.

All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

If you encounter difficulties accessing computers that are visible in Network Neighborhood, make sure the computer being accessed has an account with the same name/password as the system connecting to it uses to login.

While the default NetBIOS setting is correct for normal network configurations, it's possible for it to be altered, and it costs nothing to make sure it's correct. NETBIOS over TCP/IP must be enabled for normal network browsing.

It works!!!
After all these months of pain in the... well you know what i mean. always thought of it as an incompatibility between both PCs, but now after configuring Norton Internet Security it all of a sudden works.

Thanx a lot.

Only 1 thing left. when i go into workgroup computers and i try to access my laptop from my PC, it asks a password for "/(name of laptop)/guest"

where can i switch that off?

I can access my PC from the laptop without being asked any password...

edit:

Whoops, my bad, it works now. i had to right-click a folder, click on sharing and then on the line that i was aware of the risk by sharing a folder. after that i didn't even need to share that folder. It just worked from that moment on. Thanx again. You were my saviour. Cause there is only one thing i'll never really learn, and that's networking.... well you can't know everything...

thanx again, and again, and again...
