Networking and File Sharing problem

Usually the computer I'm on can see and share files with all the other computers in my house as long as they're on. That was until about a week ago when once in awhile I'd see the files when in the "My Networks Places" folder to where now I can't see anybody's files. I still have access to the internet anywhere in the house but I can't get files on any of my three brother's computers.

Things you may want to know:
This computer and 2 of the others are running Windows XP
The one that is running Windows 98 has the files I want to share
The computer that has Windows 98 doesn't even have a "My Network Places" folder anymore.

This is a screen shot taken when accessing the Incoming Connections area of my Network Connections Folder...

THANKS if you can help!!!

Well, it appears something got corrupted. Did you try a system restore to before the issue came up?

I'm not even sure I know how to do that and will I lose anything in the process?

You shouldn't lose any data, but you may have to reload service packs and any applications you've installed since the restore point.

How would I go about solving the problem where my old Windows 98 comp hasn't seen the network in months?

I want to try the system restore but i'm conscious towards losing important data.

If you have important data at risk, I suggest you consider your lack of backup to be your most pressing issue! Data that you don't have backed up is data you don't care about.
