Ftp??

I'm trying to give out linux ISO's through a forum. I am putting them on a forum but i can't figure out how to make a link that other people can click and begin the download from my harddrive to their computer. The forum has a button that i click that brings up a FTP "File transfer protocal" I don't know excatly what to do with all of this plz help.

you can copy the link of the ISO file that is on an existing website and post that on a forum if you wish.

I could do that but i would be able to use my server in my basement. the other way would just redircet them to that link i want to put an exact description of the item and give out some downloads so they can use my server instead of everybody useing that one.

I think we'd need to know a lot more about the forum. Why are you trying to host the rather huge ISO images, there are a number of public download sites for most Linux distributions.

In order to host those images, you'll obviously need a working FTP server at your location, have you configured and debugged that part of the setup?

Nope and I have no idea how to do that or what to do past that I've never tryed anything like this before.

i too have requested help about hosting a FTP server on my own linux box. and i got a nice reply with this link. i havn't followed thru with it yet. but plan to.. if you get to it before i do could you document your process and procedures so i have a seperate working example?

XP should be fine, no reason for server for this application, and it'll cost you a bundle anyway. A first step might be to get an FTP server running, a nice free one is FileZilla.
