Slow file transfers to Media Player on network
Hello,
My first post here. I have searched thru this & other forums for some help. hopefully someone can suggest something to try. I have a simple network setup between my desktop PC (Win XP Pro) & a media player attached to an external hdd that can play content on my AV system in my living room. The media player is the WDTVLive, attached to a WD 1TB Green Caviar in an external dock. The WD box has both an ethernet port & can use a usb N dongle . My router is a brand new DLink Extreme DIR-655 N wireless router that has gigbit ports. My REaltek NIC on my desktop mobo is also gigabit. The WD media box is 100MB My problem is, when moving media files from my PC over to my WD setup, the transfer speed maxes out at 140 KB/s via wire, & around 100 KB/s on wireless. However, if I move files from the WD to my PC, I can hit 6mb/s easily, both wired & wireless. So transferring a 4.5 GB DVD.iso I have created to watch on my system can take over 40 minutes !! I've tried turning off Avast, turning off the router firewall, and my Kerio firewall, all to no avail. My nic card is set at full duplex. Why is there such a disparity in transfer speeds? I have spoken to others & they say they see pretty much equal speeds in both directions. I can't think of anything else to try here... ![]() Any idears, folks? |

Re: Slow file transfers to Media Player on network
I suspect it's just a limitation of the limited processor power of the WDTV Live box. I didn't find any reviews that talked about network speeds...

Re: Slow file transfers to Media Player on network
Thanks for your response, johnwill
In the AVS forums for this player , several people have commented to me that they see pretty much equal speeds down & up from it, so apparently it does have enough capability to do this. But just not mine.

Re: Slow file transfers to Media Player on network
That's odd, don't know why you'd have a different response. Have you tried resetting to factory defaults and reconfiguring? If you have found a forum with others with the player, that's the place to pursue this, since they have the device to play with.

Re: Slow file transfers to Media Player on network
heh, I think I'm about ready to abandon this as my choice of media player & move on to a better one.Noone in the forums over at AVS have offered anything but" hey it works fine here", so I may just have a dud.
Bought an ASRock 330 nettop this week, since it's a real computer, & it has a gigabit port, I should do better with it. Thanks again! |

Sorry we couldn't do much for this one.
