Mac computers to Vista
Hi, where I work we all use various mac computers.
I want to use my laptop (with windows vista/soon windows 7) to connect to the server with the macs, you just go to Go Connect to Server (or mac key + K) then there is an ip address there and click connect then sign in with the guest option (very lax on secruity which is why I think I can get in with my windows laptop) Then you have access to all of the files. On my laptop if I go to the ip address, it asks for a password and user name, so I can't get in. Does this mean I would have to talk to the server admin and get them to set up a user name and password just for my laptop or is there a way I can just connect? Thank you |

Re: Mac computers to Vista
Apparently so. You have probably stored the name/password in the past in the Mac.

Re: Mac computers to Vista
I don't know if there is any user names / passwords set up already, it is a little chaotic when it comes to computers there. Most people don't know more than they have to.
I do know that you don't need a name/password to get on, I just don't know how you do that with windows, and if their server even is compatible with windows. |

Re: Mac computers to Vista
I have zero Mac expertise, so I'm out of my element here.

Re: Mac computers to Vista
Both Windows Server and Mac Servers have built in software to allow users to view shared files and folders from win to Mac or Mac to Win. This software is usually configured by a network administrator. So I would contact your network administrator.

Re: Mac computers to Vista
Thank you. I guess I have to.
Its for a college newspaper so I'm there very late (never see anyone besides anyone to do with the paper itself). So I first have to figure out who that person is. I know we have one but don't know anything more than that. I will have to ask around some more. |
