Link folders

I have a question about linking folders on a network. There is a folder on one of the network drives that I also have on my desktop. Is it possible that if I make changes to something in the folder on my desktop the changes will also appear on the network drive? The network drive this folder is on is shared to our office in Toronto so I would like any changes to show up in both locations. Thanks in advance.

Re: Link folders

You could look into an application that continuously synchronizes folders.

http://www.ajcsoft.com/index.php

You could also run a task that fires off every half hour and runs something like SyncToy.

Hmm, so there is no feature in windows that will automatically do this?

Re: Link folders

No feature in Windows, you'll have to use 3rd party software.

Re: Link folders

I solved it. All I did was go into the network drive, right click the folder and created a shortcut on my desktop. I tested by creating a new folder from the shortcut on my desktop and it did show up on the folder in the network drive. Thanks.

Re: Link folders

Im not sure. Maybe I worded the question wrong. I just wanted any changes made to the folder to show up in both locations. Creating a shortcut of the folder to my desktop was able to do that.

Re: Link folders

That's not "linking" them, but if it works for you. I thought you wanted to have a continuous backup of the folder's changing contents.

If you haven't considered backup, I'd start thinking about it.

Remember: Data you don't have at least two copies of is data you don't care about.
