Laptop does not Allow Share

I've set up a small home PC to PC network using Windows Network Wizard. Both PCs are wireless. I am having a problem getting my laptop to show up on the My Network Places on my desktop.

From the laptop I can see the desktop in My Network Places. I can also ping the it successfully. Everything seems to work fine.

However, from the desktop I am unable to see the laptop in My Network Places though I am able to ping it successfully. When I tried accessing the laptop through its IP address a received this error message:
Quote:
\\IPaddressHERE is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon failure: user account restriction.
I've tried navigating to the laptop via the Workgroup Computer. The laptop is present but I receive the same error message when trying to access it.

Thus far I've checked Windows Firewall and file sharing is allowed. I've checked the network setting on Windows Network Connection Properties on both computers and they are the same from what I can tell.

It crossed my mind that the network adapter on the laptop may not support Ad Hoc but that doesn't make sense seeing that the connection is working from the laptop to the desktop. The adapter for the laptop to a Atheros 5007EG. My guest is that the laptop is blocking the desktop from accessing it. I've search around for answers for about 24hrs now with very little luck seeing most of these issues I've found involved servers. I'm not running a server... just a PC to PC connection.

Any suggestions on what to do about this problem? Thanks!

not very good with pc to pc wireless conection. I think in window xp there is this wireless setup in control panel. then you can save that profile to USB and install it to another computer.

Re: Laptop does not Allow Share

I've tried this and it's really not what I'm trying to do. The laptop can see the desktop but the desktop is not allowed access to the laptop.

I've done all the basic troubleshooting:
  • NetBios is enabled.
  • Firewall is allowing File and Printer Sharing.
  • Both PCs are on the same workgroup.
  • Both permissions are allowing full control to the Everyone group.
  • Both PCs have the same administrator account with no password.
  • Local Security Policy for 'Access this computer from the Network' has the Everyone group for both PCs.
  • File and Printer Sharing is installed and enabled on both PCs.

I've tried disabling the Firewall... didn't work. I have avast installed on both with default settings and still only working one way so that's not it. I have no other firewall software installed either.

Re: Laptop does not Allow Share

Finally! I've gotten the issue resolved! There are a couple of steps I completed to fix this.

Quote:
There is a user rights policy to deny network access to certain users and groups, which contains a SUPPORT user and often, perhaps by default, Guest. If Guest is included here, guest access from other computers will not be possible and yields the error message, "Logon failure: The user has not been granted the required logon type at this computer.". Double-click on the policy and remove Guest from it.
  1. Go to Control Panel and open Administrative Tools.
  2. Open Local Security Policy.
  3. Click on Local Policies>>User Rights Assessment on the tree at the left.
  4. Find 'Deny access to this computer from network'.
  5. Right click on the entry and select Properties.
  6. Remove Guest from this list and click OK.

This fixed my issue and I was able to transfer files.
