I'd like some suggestions
currently a virus problem has infected a large number of computers in the office. This is because of the constant use of usb to transfer files.
I was wondering if using a file sharing system would work better to prevent virus infections. And if you do believe that this can help, do any of you have any suggestions on an affordable, safe and efficient brand? |

Re: I'd like some suggestions
Hello,
Why not use one of your server's to share files? It's centralize and files can be backed up everyday, it's safe, just give proper permissions to your Users. As of virus protection, make sure that you have all current security/anti-virus/anti-spyware/anti-malware/windows updates all current on all your work computers and servers. I would avoid using USB devices to transfer files, they go bad and if you don't have backups of files in those USB devices it's a big loss/downtime. Hooe this helps. RD

Re: I'd like some suggestions
Thanks. I'll try to study how this can be done for the office.
Do you have any resources and materials that can get me started? I was thinking about an online file sharing system. But another problem is that the organization's offices are disconnected from each other and I believe some of them have no internet. but what else could be done? Also, can't viruses enter other computers through the network. How can this be prevented? Again, thanks in advance. Last edited by Flashdisk20012; 09-30-2009 at 06:54 PM. |

Re: I'd like some suggestions
Hi Flash....can you tell me more about the servers that you have, how many, what type? Also, you've mentioned about organizations that are disconnected, are you talking about more than one location? How many? you've mentioned too some doesn't have any internet, meaning no routers setup right?
Info. about file sharing and some easy tutorials as well => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324267 Also, you may use a network USB ext. harddrive and share files here as well or can be used as backup device that anyone can access, of course Internet is needed Yes, you may do online sharing? You may check this out http://www.sharing-file.com/ If you are concerned about intrusions, you may need to get a hardware firewall, I'm big on sonicwall, they're not too expensive anymore. TZ-170 is for small business. http://www.nextag.com/tz_-_170-sonicwall/search-html For Virus/Spyware protection, you can't go wrong with McAfee Total Protection Service =>http://www.mcafee.com/us/small/index.html very reasonable. It comes with the Firewall also, but the Firewall can be a little hassle, some proper config. needed. Hope this helps.
