Backing up a shared folder
I know this question comes up time and again. but mine is a bit different. I have a shared folder in my computer and i am on a network. Often my shared folder becomes inaccessible to others. They receive a message not found or no one has taken the address.
Now can anyone solve the problem or give a solution where it can be copied to another computer on a network and whenever this problem occurs that can be used. I know I can copy, and share but I need that to synced with original every now and again..... |

Re: Backing up a shared folder
A shared folder is better to be resided in a server with proper permissions so users won't be disconnected. Just simply map a network drive from each computer. It is also safe and can be backed up regularly.

Re: Backing up a shared folder
I apologize if you misunderstood, it was just a suggestion that I think shared folders needed to be in the server. But if you prefer it in your computer, it's alright and you are correct, permissions has nothing to do with any disconnections.
I would try disabling the firewall in that computer with a shared folder and see if this helps. Also, make sure that your computer doesn't go to hybernate mode, pls. check this in your Control Panel --> Power Options and make sure Hybernate mode is disabled, system standby is set to Never, Turn off Hard disks is set to Never. Hope this helps. Let me know.

Re: Backing up a shared folder
andyarok...have you tried my suggestion to go to the Power Options?
2nd suggestion: for Event ID 1000==> check your DNS. what is your server's DNS? whatever your DNS server is need to be in your computer Right-click My Network Places, and then click Properties. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. Type the correct DNS address in the Preferred DNS server box. 3rd suggestion: change the screen refresh rate, so if you have it set for 60 hertz, change it to 70 ot 75 hertsz and see what happens. Pls let me know

Re: Backing up a shared folder
I have disabled hibernation now. but please let me know why is that? Secondly when you said that, I looked into my network places. One of the shared folders which is in my own computer, has a network location as "The internet". Again there is this same folder but instead of IP, it has LPO06 which is the name of the workgroup I think(not sure). I will add that image and please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Re: Backing up a shared folder
Thanks for disabling the hibernation mode, see if this resolves the issue. I've seen this happened, not unless you have a Wake On Lan NIC on all of your computers, it wakes up your computer if it goes to sleep, just have your screen saver enabled to save some power.
My second suggestion was to look in your DNS settings, so to accomplish this right click My Network Places, go to Properties, then Lan, go to your Internet Protocol and make sure that you are using the correct DNS server. It will be a lof helpful for me if you can provide me the ipconfi /all info and post it here. The correct DNS assigned to each client computer has lot to do with file shared in your computer. I have a feeling that we are so close resolving your issue.
