help with filesharing between XP and Win 7 machines
hi guys! need some expert assistance here :)
so i found this site http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...dows-7-and-xp/ .. ..and followed the instructions to setup filesharing between the 2 computers and what happened is i can see the Win 7 machine in XP but the Win 7 cannot see the XP. some pertinent details: 1) the router is a Netgear wgr614. the XP (desktop) is connected thru cable while the Win 7 (laptop) is wireless. 2) both PCs are on the same workgroup (default: WORKGROUP) 3) i have firewalls running on both but i don't really think that's the issue 4) some of the drives are already set for sharing with all the necessary permissions. 5) the XP can see the Win 7 under "my network places" but cannot access the files there - error: "workgroup is not accessible. you might not have permission.." 6) both PCs are able to connect to the internet flawlessly. 7) XP is SP 3, Win 7 is build 7100 what am i missing here? any advice would be appreciated. thanks, my friends :) Last edited by santong_banana; 08-28-2009 at 08:35 PM. |
