printer and file sharing ???
hi iv been trying to set up our home network for a while so that both computers can see each other and access each others files and access the printer. ok so the hardware is a d-link dsl-g604t modem router with 1 computer connected to it via ethernet and one connected with wireless. there are also a few other laptops that come and go and so i do not wish to include those in this. both computers can connect to the internet perfectly fine and can also ping each other so i know the issue isnt in connectivity. i have run the network setup wizard and wireless equivalent with no success. any help is appreciated greatly

Re: printer and file sharing ???
Can they ping each other by computer name?
Let's see this from each computer. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key: Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands. NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: printer and file sharing ???
For the second computer, do this, then post the same results I asked for previously.
Select Start > Settings > Network Connections.

Re: printer and file sharing ???
The failure of NETBIOS is the issue here. Let's make sure it's enabled in the registry.
Start, Run, REGEDIT Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Start, and set the value to "2" Close REGEDIT and reboot.
