windows xp file sharing all of the sudden doesn't work

we have a windows xp and vista network set up at work and it worked just fine. Last friday we started having problems with our verizon fios connection and had a tech come in to check out our connection. Our building has a dsl line that we have that runs into the fios router. The only thing the tech did was switch out the VDSL modem with a new one. He did nothing else. After he did that, we notice that none of our computers were able to network with each other and could not share files anymore. The strange thing is that they all still have internet access though, so they must all still be connected to the network.

I have been on the phone with verizon several times saying that something MUST have happened that disabled our networking abilities when the new vdsl modem was connected, but they insist that this could have no effect on a peer to peer network like we have.

one other strange thing i noticed, is that the two computers that are running vista can see each other.

SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME

How did you run a VDSL line into the FiOS router?

How about the exact make/model of all the equipment involved here?

How many computers are we talking about here? If the Vista computers see each other, it's hard to imagine they can't ping each other!
