[SOLVED] XP-Vista visibility problem
I have three computers in my wireless home network: my desktop, kids desktop & my laptop. My desktop runs XP, and has a shared printer and shared folders. Kids desktop runs Vista and has shared folders. My laptop runs Vista.
The problem is my desktop isn't visible to my laptop. The interesting thing is my laptop can print to the printer attached my desktop, and my laptop can see kids desktop. My laptop isn't visible to either of the other two computers. I checked the firewall on my desktop, and the IP address for my laptop is listed as a trusted IP address. Suggestions? |

Re: XP-Vista visibility problem
Let's see this for each of the computers.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key: Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands. NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: XP-Vista visibility problem
After wrestling around with this last night, I figured out that I hadn't changed the Workgroup name on my laptop to match the Workgroup name of the other two machines. Problem solved! Thanks.
