[SOLVED] computer names not being resolved in XP pro ..

Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem. I've set up my network ( 3 desktops 1 x wireless laptop) using a TK IP router. Most use fixed IP addresses. Each machine can access the internet. 1 of the machnes (laptop) can find 1 of the networked PC's. None of the machines can find/browse the NAS ( fixed IP address) to I can access the login configuration setup.
If I ping each machine's IP address I get a reply as expected. if I use net view \\ip address I also get the expected reply, showing shares etc.
If I use net view \\ComputerName it tells me the network path wasnt found.
So I know it isnt resolving the computernames. What I dont know is how to fix it! lol
I am pretty well versed and have tried most of what I know to resolve this, but without success.
Inittially it all worked fine, however somewhere along the line it stopped and in all honesty I've no idea why.
How do I re-enable the name resolution issue or am I on the wrong track?
any help would be appreciated.
many thanks
glenn

Re: computer names not being resolved in XP pro ..

First off, what's the exact make/model of the NAS?

Also, I'd like to see this for each of the computers.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: computer names not being resolved in XP pro ..

Hi thanks for the prompt reply, but I think I've sorted it, strangely enough I was checking all the cables and connections etc and I reset a switch extending the network.
That seems to have done the trick. In all honesty I never thought that would cause a problem, but all the same many thanks.
