[SOLVED] Resource sharing/access problem on one computer in home network
Hello,
I've got three desktops set up in a network at home, which I've been trying to set up to share printers and certain folders. All 3 machines are running XP service pack 2. All three have Windows Firewall, with the File & Printer sharing exception enabled, and simple file sharing is turned off. All three computers can ping each other and access the internet with no problems. All three show up under "My Network Places". My problem is this: computers 1 and 2 can access each other's shared folders and printers. Computer 3 can access the shared folders and printers on computers 1 and 2. But computers 1 and 2 cannot access the shared folders on computer 3. When I try to connect to computer 3 from one of the others by going to Run and typing "\\" and the computer name, I get this error: ![]() At first I thought it must be a problem with the permissions on the shared folder, but they are set to "Everyone: Full control". As an experiment, I tried playing around with the share permissions on computer 2 and trying to access it from computer 3, but what happened was that I could still connect from computer 3 via Run > "\\(computername)" and see the shared printers and folders on computer 2, I just then was denied access to the folders when I tried to open them. What's happening with computer 3 is different: I cannot even get to the initial window where I see the available folders (and/or printers, though in the case of computer 3 there is no printer). Can anyone help shed some light on this? I'm rather embarrassed, because I just recently got my Network+ certification, so I thought I knew this stuff, but obviously I don't because I'm quite stuck. Any help or ideas would be very greatly appreciated! Many thanks. |

Re: Resource sharing/access problem on one computer in home network
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer
If you see this message the following should be done on the computer containing the shared files: Download the following and install it Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=4544 after installation is complete, click on: Start, All Programs, Windows Resource Kit Tools, Command Shell Then enter the following commands. (Attention: they are case sensitive.) net user guest /active:yes ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u Guest ntrights -r SeDenyNetworkLogonRight -u Guest The first command enables network access for Guest, the two subsequent ones change two different policies to allow network access for Guest.
