***Newb trying to set up a Home Network PLZ Help***

Title says it all, i am a complete newb to setting up a home network, any help would be greatly appreciated.

What it is exactly that we are trying to do is this:

We would like all of our computers to be able to access files from one specific computer (the one in the home office) Even more specific, we would like to be able to access the 1TB external hard drive connected to this one computer.

It would also be great if we could download files directly onto the above mentioned hard drive from any one of our computers.

we have 4 computers (1 running Windows Vista, 3 running XP Pro SP2). Internet modem is connected to a Linksys router.

***One more question, does windows firewall have to be disabled in order to access the home network?

I hope i have provided sufficient info.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance.
