[SOLVED] File Sharing Issue with XP
I have two PCs that I want files to share, using Linksys WRT54G Router... One PC "A" is wired from back of PC to Router HUB and another PC "B" uses Wireless G USB.
PC B have no problem connecting through Router wirelessly, and is able to run Internet. I have established both with unique names.... I have established both same workgroup name. But yet both PCs cannot see eachother's in same work group... I have been struggling with this for two days now. Maybe there are issues with wireless or something??? does anyone know? Are there any link showing step by step connecting Wireless PC and use it for sharing folder?? Let me know |

Re: File Sharing Issue with XP
P.S.
On wireless PC or PC "B"... when I click on view workgroup... The message states "Chad (Workgroup name) Is not accessible you may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. List of workgroup server for this work group is not available. " I don't use server... I use PC to PC ?? thats something I am confused about.. any tips? |

Re: File Sharing Issue with XP
Hello there...
With which one account you are logged??? Check in Properties of volumes or partitions in your PC what permissions your account has... You should log with administrator account and try to manage permissions... After you manage permissions, try this: START > RUN... > and type \\PC name\C$ [PC name is name of the PC that you want to gain access] P.S. Did you set IP addresses properly??? Re: File Sharing Issue with XP
With which one account you are logged???
Both with Administrator Privilege. Check in Properties of volumes or partitions in your PC what permissions your account has... I am not sure I get that one, care you elaborate? You should log with administrator account and try to manage permissions... Both are logged in administrator account. After you manage permissions, try this: START > RUN... > and type \\PC name\C$ [PC name is name of the PC that you want to gain access] I Typed \\chad\C$ -- box prompt stating "The network path was not found" P.S. Did you set IP addresses properly??? I have Linksys Router set up with DHCP... Which mean Router will assign IP nodes on each pc automatically. As I mentioned earlier, I am able to access Internet browser with Wireless USB adapter. But is not able to see Workgroup to PC that I am trying to access or share files with.... They both are using same type of router. Just different structure,,, (One is wired, another one is wireless). And they both have administrator privileges. What does that tell?? |

Re: File Sharing Issue with XP
Hello again...
I am not skilfull with this things mate and I think you should make a new thread in Networking Forum, they will help you more than I that is for sure... But try this: Open Network Connections... What do you see there??? What is the status of your connection??? On Local Area Network of your connection, right-click and bridge connections... I am just guessing now but maybe it will help you since you have one wired and one wireless connection... |

Re: File Sharing Issue with XP
I fixed the problem.... It was the Firewall... I had firewall turned on while establishing workgroup for both PCs. I suppose, fire wall should be turned off in order for both PCs find eachother and start communicating.
Of course I turn firewall back on after succeed this, it work like charm! Thanks for helping |
