Can't access computers on network

hey, mind if I hijack this thread? I got the same problem

For some reason, my vista machine has no problem accessing shared folders on my XP machine, but the XP machine can't access shared folders on the Vista machine, says I don't have permission. Whattup with that?

I tried Johnwill's solution: creating a user account with the same name/password as the client machine, I still get told that.

Re: Can't access computers on network

Actually, I do mind.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Re: Can't access computers on network

OK, I've got a laptop running vista, and a Desktop running XP. I've set them to the same workgroup, and I set a folder on the XP machine to be 'shared'. Presto, the Vista machine can access that folder. I do the same on the Vista machine, and when XP comp tries to access that folder, it gives an error message saying I don't have permission to access that, even though I've disabled password protected sharing on the Vista machine.

This is all wireless, if that matters.
