An issue with file sharing inheritance in WinXP SP3

Hey there,

I'm having an issue with file sharing here. I want people on my home network to be able to access the files I shared, but I don't want them to be able to modify them with the exception of the content of a few folders.

So the concept is simple:

1- Share the partition and set the sharing option to Read Only
2- Set the Security for Everyone to Read Only on that partition
3- Remove inheritance to the specific folders and set the Security for Everyone to Full Control

Sound simple enough, in theory. Problem is, it seems that the folders will NOT listen to the fact that I want them to forget what the parent folder/partition has for settings, they keep the Full Control folders to Read only

Is this a bug with SP3 or something?

Thanks

Works for me here. Are you sure you checked the box to propagate the permissions when you selected the Read Only attribute?

Indeed, you want to make sure the checkbox for Inherit from parent the permission entires that apply to child object. Include these with entries explicitly defined here. is unchecked (Security tab -> click "Advanced..." button -> Permissions tab, first checkbox near the bottom of the window).
