new in this field cant access file
i am new to networking and i just installed cat5 in my house and am setting up a network our main computer has all our music files and such on it so i opened properties and shared the files but now when i try to open my main pc from my room it say i am not authorized but i can access my room from my main pc i now it sounds simply but i cant find out were to take off the security

So, you created a user on the main computer that matches same user/password as on the remote computer? This is the user that you gave share permissions to?

More importantly, do you have Windows firewall turned on for your main box, where share is? If so, you need to create exceptions on that firweall to allow the IP address of your other machine access.
