Hi,

I installed and updated a PC with windows XP Prof. For some reason it can ping other PCs on the network, but itself can not be pinged. It's not getting it's automatic updates via group policies server side. The firewall is off and there are no antivirus scanners yet.

There are no IP conflicts. Why can't other PCs ping the machine, while it can ping others? How can i fix this issue?

FWIW, failure to ping is almost always a firewall issue. Maybe you have remnants of a firewall that was uninstalled still causing an issue. Also, when you uninstall a 3rd part firewall, the Windows firewall may have been enabled automatically.

Let's see this for the machine in question.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
