Problems reconnection to a nas unit
Hi,
I have a Synology DS107e attached to my home network via a Linksys router - cabled. I have mapped several drives on my PC, but whatever I do I can't get them to reconnect automatically. I have tried using the Management on the DS107e, I have tried using mapping, bat files whatever. And every time I restatrt the PC the drives show as disconnected. Often it is just a double click and they reconnect, but applications don't do that. Synology are doing their best to help, but does anyone have any idea where the problem could lie? It could be something with my PC: ASUS P5B Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 4GB memory 4 X 250 GB e-ata nVidai 8800 pro Win XP Pro Inbuilt 100 MB ethernet Linksys WR45GL router Any ideas gratefully received Mark |

I got feedback from Synology and a lot of tips, none of which worked fully, but currently the drives mostly appear connected or connect as soon as I click once, but not always. Here are the two last messages I got from Synology: To connect to your Synology system with a fixed user/password, then follow the steps below: 1. Enter the management UI. Go to the Privileges>>User page. Select "Guest" user and disable it. 2. In Windows, go to Start>>Run and enter the command "cmd". This will take you to a DOS-like command prompt. Then type: net use * /d /y , and it will disconnect all mapped drives. 3. Then type: control userpasswords2 OR rundll32.exe netplwiz.dll,UsersRunDll 4. You will see a pop-up window about user/password management. Go to Advanced>>Manage Passwords, like in the attached image "Control Userpasswords2.jpg". Then you input your Synology system's IP and the logon user/password. When you login, this will be done automatically. 5. Reboot your PC and remap the drives 6. Reboot your PC again to make sure you don't need to input user/password That didn't work, the last one was: First of all, try disabling any VPN or anti-virus, or firewalls. Let's try this: 1. Go to Start>>Run and then type: \\SystemName (SystemName is the name of your DS.) 2. The "Map Network Drive" window will open. 3. Click on the "connect using a different user name" 4. Another window will open. Make sure the user is the one you want to use, if not then change the user. Also, make sure you turn off the "guest" account on your DS. Let's see if this works. I would just liketo say I really like Synology's attitude and hlpfulness, I told them it was fixed when the drives started reconnecting - I later found it wasn't always happening, but I didn't feel like going through endless rounds trying to fix a minor annoyance. So thanks Synology! |
