[SOLVED] Software Inventory
I've been asked to find some software that creates a list software being used on the network (for audits). I've found quite a few programs so far but I just thought I would check here to see if anyone had come across any good ones along their travels.
Need it to be able to make a list of all software running on each computer along with specific product info (product keys and such). Something like Microsoft's Software Inventory Analyzer but covers more than just Microsoft's products. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks *We are running WinXP on all clients and Unix on all servers.* |

Re: Software Inventory
What is your budget? I know ManageEngine.com has a nice little tool but I'm not sure if it's bundled or not. I think it also includes Asset management software and perhaps a Help Desk package. They do a have a somewhat limited free version found here:
http://manageengine.adventnet.com/pr...esk/index.html In any event, you can also use some low level command line tools. In the past I've used PSTools (check Microsoft.com for this) and run a basic script to pull this information. You could have the script pull data from the machines you find by running 'net view' and then dump to a text file. Again, crude but it works especially if your funds are limited and you're not looking at 600 PC's to inventory. This would cover your Windows machines only. UNIX is another animal entirely. For those you should hit up your particular flavor community as I'm sure there are many nice perl scripts written for this type of thing. Last edited by Tekmazter : 05-22-2008 at 05:29 PM. |
