Lan hard drive sharing problems on Vista

I have a small LAN with a PC win2000 sp4, a N&C lan hard drive and a Oki printer, everything is OK.

The problem is when I connect a laptop with vista home premium: I can not use the lan hard drive.
I can access it, and see the root directory, but when I try to enter some dir, or open a file it stands forever......
I have tried connecting another cpu, with vista ultimate, same problem.

I can ping the driver from vista, I've tried with static and dynamic IPs, all PCs are in the same workgroup.....

I haven't found any firmware update for the drive.

I suppose it is not a firewall issue, as I have full access to internet.
Wonder how could I resolve it.... I suppose is some security issue in Vista??

Re: Lan hard drive sharing problems on Vista

It's likely the version of Linux used for the embedded software in the NAS drive. I had a similar issue with a drive here, there was finally a firmware update that resolved the issue.

After a long search, I found out that the external drive is FAT32, while vista doesn't recognize it.......

I'm in a backup process to reformat it, still not sure it will be fixed....

The firmware in the drive is previous to vista, but I didn't find any update....
(N&C Connection LAN Drive).

Re: Lan hard drive sharing problems on Vista

Actually, that's incorrect. Vista has no issues recognizing FAT32 volumes, and both my Vista laptop and desktop machine read them just fine. Reformatting isn't going to solve this issue. I suspect the only other option is the Linux native filesystem, probably EXT3 or similar.
