Print Sharing Vista -> Xp

I recently bought a nice new wireless internet router the other day and decided to share the home printer using it. Both Computers used Xp at the time and using the support pages at Canon, I was able to successfully share the printer. Unfortunately now the main computer has been installed with Vista and so I had to try it all again but this time it was without success...

I followed these instructions to the letter, but I couldn't get the XP computer to find the printer connected to the Vista one.. It could find the Vista Computer, but couldn't, or perhaps wouldn't find the printer. Is there something that I am not doing right? something that I may have overlooked?

Thanks in advance
Gus.

Re: Print Sharing Vista -> Xp

I found with Vista sharing an XP printer that I sometimes have to install the printer on the Vista machine as a local printer (actually plug the USB into the Vista machine for the installation), then in the printer properties, create a new local port and use the full network path name to the printer as the port name. //<computer_name/<printer_name>

This is how I had to install several printers here, as well as at some clients.
