File and application sharing
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to share files, folders and applications between a Windows Vista Home Premium notebook computer and a Windows XP professional desktop computer.
In my desktop I have my primary C drive which the actual installed software is installed on. I also have a second drive that is 750 GB's in size and in generally store most of my data on my desktop. I also have a 500 GB Western Digital MyBook drive in which I use most of the time when I am away from home to store my larger files. My notebook computer hard drive is 160 GB's in size total and of that I am down to about 127 GB's left on the drive. I am trying to conserve drive space on the note book computer by limiting it to only actual applications that are installed and the most essential data that I need. I would like to keep most of my data on both the MyBook and on the 750 GB hard drive and I would like to keep all of the files, folders, and application software on those two drives and I would like to keep them synchronized with each other so that I can access the same and most current data from either machine while keeping the data centralized in one place. I would ideally like to keep most of these files, folders, and applcations on the MyBook drive and synching them both drives together so that the myBook is updating the 750 GB drive. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how this works and as to what some of the best methods are to accomplish that? I have been told that Synchtoy is supposed to be good for doing that, but I have also noticed that Windows XP has a briefcase option that I can use, but I am not too familiar with how that works nor do I know as to whether or not synchtoy is any good or if it would even accomplish what I want to do. I am trying to make things as simple as possible by letting the computers do all of the work and I would appreicate if someone could tell me as to how to do that and as to what the best options and methods are in accomplishing that. Robert. |
